Forts & Heriatge: A Legacy of the Rulers
An inseparable part of Indian history, the forts in India reflect the eventful past of the country. The dynasties that ruled in India were mostly preoccupied with wars and were more interested in extending their rule to other states. They considered it their divine duty to fight and the legendary stories of their extraordinary courage are still narrated to the younger generations.
Despite being busy with wars and other affairs of the state, the Indian rulers were great patrons of art in every form. They were great builders as well which is pretty much evident in the forts and palaces built by them. The architectural style of a fort was in fact a cultural expression made by the rulers themselves. For example, the forts built by the Mughal Emperors stood out with the perfect symmetry of their structure. The forts built by the Hindu rulers were in fact much more complex compositions. |
